From CardMaking to Art Journaling Lesson 1

Well my Craft Bubble pals were keen to get started. So I have focused on using materials that traditional cardmakers will have and will also feel comfortable with. As I said yesterday I don't profess to being an expert and this is my first video tutorial! There are a few laughs along the way and I talk through my thought process while creating. I hope that it will give cardmakers the essence of what art journaling is about! Here goes!!

Cardmaking to Art Journaling Free Course

Some crafty pals over at the CraftBubble forum are interested in giving art journaling a go. So I said I would put together some prompts and tutorials together for them this year. I thought I would try and spread the word a bit as I am sure there are other cardmakers interested in trying out art journaling. I don't profess to being an expert but in 2012 I took my own journey from cardmaking to art journaling so decided to share my ideas. My thought is that I will try to use the cardmaking stash you have so that you can dip your toe into art journaling and see if you like it! Then as the year progress we might just HAVE to buy new stash! Please add this button to your blog sidebar, post and spread the word. Don't forget to become a follower too! Who knows where our journey together might take us?

Why not join up at the CraftBubble forum? This way you will be able to share you work, chat about projects and join some likeminded crafters. Here is the post link on the forum.

Pleased to be...

...back at my craft table today. I have used a few bits of new stash that I received as gifts and also as presents to myself! The background was created using Tim Holtz tissue tape and the coloured paper was made using ink sprays/masks/stamps. After Christmas of course comes the thank you cards. Here is the first one:

I have designed it using the sketch from Seems A Little Sketchy and I will also enter this card into the Aud Sentiments challenge which is Anything Goes!

Part Two...

...of Bright and Cheerful! Used same stash to create a birthday card and some packaging for my hand carved stamp. Well, I managed to pack the stamp up but will I be able to give it as a gift! I have a few months to decide and will be making more of these trio of projects for other Craft Bubble members who signed up for the birthday card swap.

I am going to enter this trio of projects into Freshly Made Sketches as I used their sketch and Papertake Weekly 'Pick of the Year' (July make your own) plus Stamping for the Weekend 'Anything Goes!'

Happy Holidays to all my Blogging Pals!! xxx

Bright and Cheerful

It is Christmas Eve and I am sick of the rain here in the UK. It has been nothing but trouble for many reasons and I am feeling rather gloomy what with one thing or another. So yesterday decided to carve a stamp and went for a naive flower it is about 4cm wide. Today decided to make a project with it and went for bright colour Dylusion ink sprays. I have made a bobbin to hold some trim which will be a present for a fellow crafter in 2013, as over at the CraftBubble forum we have a birthday card exchange and this will be our gift for the year (a metre of trim, etc). So here is my first make:

I punched a flower with some of the leftovers and glued it to a pin to hold the wrapped around trim.

I think a matching card is in order and I am wondering whether I might give the stamp as a gift too. That is if I can part with it!! Going to enter this bobbin into the Anything but a Card challenge which is 'Anything Goes' and also Fab n Funky challenge 'add some ribbon or lace'

Twinchie Books

Here are some festive twinchies I have made for a craft swap. I used ink sprays and templates to create the background. Then I overstamped with lots of different images. There is some added black washi tape and some sparkly crackle paint/goosebumps texture spray. It was all finished off with some stamped and inked dylusion leaves plus some red gems.

I am going to enter them into the following challenges:
Simon Says: What's your Favourite? (Inksprays and templates)
Crafting for all Seasons: Red and Green plus glitter/sparkle
Anything but a Card: Celebrating the Season
Show us your Twinchies: Traditional Xmas Colours

Choices?

Here is my page for the current Fall Fearless and Fly challenge over at Artists in Blogland. I went with the prompt 'My favourite Colours'. The problem was I couldn't decide I have always liked colours red, bright pink but I like them all! Currently I can't finish any project with out a 'pop' of black.

I was really pleased with the background but the focal character was not so great. It looked a bit flat, so I decided to do some stamping over the top, but went with black and that didn't look great either. Was just about to through it away when I thought, why not? So I scanned my image and after a few digital tools this is what I came up with. The image was then cut out and added to my background, of course I couldn't leave the black out and sketched over my image with a Pitt pen. I can't wait to see what this looks like in the daylight as it was dark when I finished which isn't great for judging colours or taking photos either.

What an Angel...

There are a batch of new art journaling challenges out there and what a good chance to ink up a new stamp. Not an angel as such but the circular images around the head made me think angels (stamp by Dina Wakely). I used a Kaleidocolour 'Flannel' ink pad and a lovely selection of mini Tim Holtz stamps. I just love the quote by George Eliot and spritzed some Goosebump Texture Spray.

I have designed this page with the following challenges in mind:
Art Journal Journey: Angels
Art Journal Cafe: A Very Long Title
